In 1897 Kyōikukai authored a woodblock-printed picture book entitled Mōhitsu Kachō Gajō (i.e., Picture Album of Flower and Bird Brush Paintings). It included twenty-nine pictures of flowers and (or) birds, of which twenty-three are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Kyōikukai drew the shapes of flowers and birds in a true-to-life way but only hinted at their true coloring, perhaps to reduce the cost of printing this book.
